University of Utah Alumni Association introduces U Championship Pro-Am

June 29, 2015 – The University of Utah Alumni Association invites alumni and community members to participate in the inaugural U Championship Pro-Am golf tournament presented by University Credit Union on Monday, Aug. 10, at Willow Creek Country Club, 8505 Willow Creek Drive. PGA Champions Tour golfers scheduled to play include Bruce Summerhays, Jay Don Blake, Tom Pernice Jr. (2014 Charles Schwab Cup Champion) and Keith Clearwater. Local celebrities such as Michael Doleac, Josh Grant, Britton Johnsen and Luther Ellis are also set to play.

Amateur foursomes are $2,000; U Pro-Am foursomes (three amateurs plus one PGA or U player) are $3,500. Proceeds from the event will support the programs, services and scholarships of the U Alumni Association. Online registration closes on Thursday, Aug. 6.

The PGA Champions Tour players will lead a skills training clinic from 7:30-8:30 a.m., and a continental breakfast runs concurrently. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. An awards luncheon follows at 2 p.m. The skills clinic is free and open to all, not just participants. The breakfast and lunch are open to all alumni and friends for a $35 fee. PGA golfers and local celebrities will sign autographs in the morning and at lunch.

For nearly 15 years, the Alumni Association has hosted a golf event. What started out as a simple three club golf tournament, held on the old campus golf course, developed into the Homecoming Scholarship Scramble at the Bonneville Golf Course near campus. In 2014, at the end of a 9-year run, the Scholarship Scramble raised more than $50,000 for student scholarships. Keeping the same altruistic purpose, this year the event has transformed into a Pro-Am golf experience. For more information about this year’s event, visit uchampionship.com.
