Former Ute Women’s Basketball players

Four former University of Utah women’s basketball players will represent their respective countries at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio Aug. 6-20. Kim (Smith) Gaucher, Michelle Plouffe and Shona Thorburn will play for team Canada, and Leilani Mitchell will compete for Australia. The preliminary games of the tournament will be held at the Youth Arena in the Deodoro Olympic Park. Quarterfinal and medal games will be played at the Carioca Arena in the Barra Olympic Park. Gaucher, Thorburn and Plouffe will be making their second appearance in the Olympics after leading Canada to an eighth-place finish in 2012 in London, while this will be Mitchell’s Olympic debut.
