Ozzy Osbourne has been making headlines recently after splitting from his wife Sharon. The high-profile duo for years were known for their quirky reality show. In the wake of the separation, Osbourne’s daughter Kelly is asserting that her father has become a victim of elder abuse by his mistress. Outside of the tabloid facts in the case, the Osbourne saga raises an interesting question: What constitutes elder abuse? Sonia Salari, an associate professor and graduate director in the University of Utah’s Department of Family and Consumer Studies, is an expert in the area of elder abuse and can speak to how such behavior patterns emerge. Salari, authored the book “Family Violence Across the Life Course: Research, policy and prevention,” which includes a section on elder abuse.
