While summer is often full of adventure, vacations and soaking up the sun, it can also be a time when parents hear children say, “I’m bored.” Summer can be a great time for children to get involved in service projects, which leads to adults who make time to participate in service projects. Dean McGovern, executive director of the University of Utah Bennion Community Service Center, and BobbiJo Kanter, associate director of student programs at the center, can discuss the long-lasting benefits to individuals and society when people invest their time in service. The Bennion Center sponsors hundreds of service events during the academic year and has a calendar of service opportunities with other organizations that are available during the summer months. Look for the “Service Line” calendar on the homepage.
