Important Safety Information: Update about an incident that happened at the JCC

[Dec. 3, 2017, 2:30 p.m.] Update to the University of Utah campus community about the incident at the Jewish Community Center that occurred earlier today:
The suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at a woman outside the Jewish Community Center earlier today was located in Murray, along with the vehicle, and is now in custody. There is no longer any threat to campus associated with this incident.

 

[Dec. 3, 2017, 12:23 p.m.] Update to the University of Utah campus community about an incident that happened Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Jewish Community Center:

This morning, a man driving a white Mercedes wagon pulled into the Jewish Community Center and pointed what was believed to be a handgun at a female getting out of a car in the front parking area. The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating the incident and reports that the man was last seen at 3300 South and I-15. Out of an abundance of caution, we are alerting campus to this incident.

Description of the suspect: 

  • The driver is described as a male adult, 30 to 35 years old, with curly, brown hair and wearing a brown jacket. The car has a Utah arches license plate on the back, no front license plate, tinted windows and a sunroof.

What to do:

  • Anybody with information is encouraged to call the University Police Department dispatch at 801-585-2677.
  • Campus police remind everyone to always be aware of their surroundings and to immediately report any suspicious persons or activities on campus.
